Women's hairstyles, tested before the first cut

Length is the one thing nobody can put back. Another two centimetres takes a stylist a minute and takes you a year to regrow, which is how appointments end in a compromise neither of you wanted. Run the women's hairstyles you are weighing up on your own photo first: a collarbone lob, a French bob, a shag with a wispy fringe, long face-framing layers, a pixie. Your face, skin tone and the light in the original shot stay fixed while only the hair is redrawn, so a comparison between two women's hairstyles is a fair one. Colour goes on top of whichever cut you chose, which means you can check a caramel balayage and a jet black on the same length.

Bob or lob

A chin-length blunt bob, a French bob, a collarbone lob. Two centimetres separates them, and they land very differently on a round face than a long one.

Fringe check

Curtain, blunt, wispy or side-swept, drawn on your own forehead and brow line. Growing one back out past the cheekbone takes roughly a year of pinning it sideways.

Layers and shags

Long face-framing layers, butterfly layers, a shag, a wolf cut. Where the shortest layer lands decides how much volume ends up sitting at your jaw.

Colour on top

Caramel balayage, a money piece, ash blonde, a silver blend. Put the shade on the new cut instead of guessing how the two will read together.

If one decision is bigger than the rest, there are pages built around it: fringe shapes, bob lengths, going shorter, and curls and coils cut for your texture. Otherwise start broad here. Upload one clear photo and look at the first version of yourself. It is free, with no account to make.

Questions about the women's Hairstyle Try-On

Straight answers, no hedging.

Will I still recognise myself in the render?

Yes. Your features, skin tone, expression and the lighting of your photo are kept as they are, and hair is the only thing redrawn. A preview that slimmed your face while it shortened your hair would sell you a cut that cannot deliver what you saw.

What happens to the photo I use?

It is used to create your render and kept in your library, where only you can see it. Only your signed-in account can read it, and the privacy policy explains the handling.

How close is the render to the real cut?

It is a reference image, not a promise. Hair behaves differently once it is off. Fine hair will not hold the volume a render shows, curls spring up two or three inches shorter than they hang wet, and a blunt line needs regular trims to stay blunt.

Does it work on curly, coily or textured hair?

Yes. You set your texture during setup and the cut is rendered for that pattern rather than pasted over as straight hair. Braids, silk presses and layered curls are included, so a bob on 4c hair looks like a bob on 4c hair.

Can I try a colour and a cut at the same time?

Yes, and it is usually the more useful test. A caramel balayage on long layers and the same balayage on a chin-length bob are two different results, because shorter lengths give a colourist far less room to place the melt.

Should my hair be up or down in the photo?

Down, dry and pushed back off your face. One front-facing shot in daylight, no hat, no heavy filter, both ears roughly visible. If your hair is tied back the render has to invent your hairline, and that is the part you want it to get right.
