Organique Hair: 6 Textures, and Which One to Buy

Organique is Shake-N-Go's synthetic weave and braiding hair line, and a three-bundle Mastermix pack runs about $19 to $22 at the big online beauty supplies. It is not human hair. It has never been human hair. That one fact decides everything else about how you buy it, because synthetic fiber will not take dye and will not hold a curl pattern you impose on it later.

So the useful question is never "is Organique any good". It is "which Organique texture gives me the finished look I want, at the length I want, for the money I have". This guide answers that: the six textures, what each one is actually for, real prices, how long an install lasts, and how to see the length on your own face before you open a pack you cannot return.

What Organique hair is made of

Organique is a Shake-N-Go brand. The retail spec sheet does not hide it: material synthetic, features Futura / heatable, heat safe up to 400F. A Mastermix 3PCS pack is 250g (8.8 oz) of hair split across three bundles, sold in length sets of 14/16/18, 18/20/22 or 24/26/28 inches, with the brand's "one pack does it all" claim printed on the front.

Futura is the word that matters. It is a heat-resistant fiber, so unlike the cheap kanekalon in a $4 pack you can put a curling iron or a flat iron on Organique up to 400F and the fiber survives it. That is why a body wave pack can be smoothed into a looser wave, and why a straight pack can be bumped at the ends.

What Futura will not do is take color. There is no lifting it, no toning it, no dyeing it brown next month. Whatever shade is on the pack is the shade you wear until you take it out. Shake-N-Go covers that by selling a lot of shades: naturals like 1, 1B, 2 and 4, blondes like 27 and 613, the burgundy 530, a copper, and ombre and piano mixes like OM3T1B427 and P27/613 that usually cost about $2 more than a flat color.

If you are weighing this against a human hair option, the trade is simple. Human hair can be colored and reused for a year or more and costs several times as much. Synthetic costs twenty dollars, looks right out of the pack, and has a shorter life.

The Organique texture lineup

Six patterns carry the line on Shake-N-Go's own Organique page. The names are marketing, so here is what each one actually does on a head.

The braiding side of the line is separate. Organique 3X Fresh Kinky Twist is a pre-stretched twisting hair built to blend with type 4 texture, and it goes into twists, faux locs and crochet installs rather than a sew-in.

Pick by the finished style, not the pack photo

This is the part people get wrong. The photo on the pack is styled hair, shot under lights, usually on 24 inches. You are not buying the photo, you are buying a curl pattern that you are stuck with. Work backwards from the style you want instead.

Long loose waves

Breezy Wave is the one most people mean when they say they want Organique. It sits open and a bit undone, which is what makes it read as real rather than as a wig. Body Wave is its heavier sister: deeper S bends, more density, better under lights, slightly more obviously "done". On a 18/20/22 set, one pack genuinely covers a full head, which is the whole point of the 250g pack.

Springy defined curls

Hawaiian Curl is the curl pattern with separation, meaning the curls hang as distinct ringlets instead of merging into a cloud. Buy it short. A 14/16/18 set on a curl pattern that shrinks reads as collarbone length once installed, and the volume sits where you want it, at the sides of the face rather than at the ends. Going 24 inches in a curl this defined pulls the pattern straight under its own weight.

Sleek and straight

The Straight texture is where the Futura fiber earns its money. It takes a flat iron, so a stylist can smooth the blend line between your leave-out and the wefts, which is the single thing that decides whether a straight sew-in looks convincing. Go long here. Straight hair eats length, so 28 or 30 inch is what gives you the waist-length silhouette people are shopping for, and that means two packs, not one.

Boho knotless braids

Boho braids need a wavy hair that will not frizz after a week, which is exactly what Organique's wave textures are used for. The braider plaits your own hair knotless, then leaves loose wavy pieces of the Organique hanging along the braid. Breezy Wave gives a softer, more natural feathered edge; Hawaiian Curl gives tighter, more visible spirals. Twists, locs and crochet

The 3X Fresh Kinky Twist packs are pre-stretched and matte rather than shiny, which is why they sit next to type 4 hair without giving the install away. What Organique hair costs

So a one-pack install lands near $20 in hair, and a two-pack straight install near $40. A braid-out of kinky twist at four packs runs more like $30 to $50 depending on the store. Add the install itself and a sew-in in a salon is usually the larger number by far.

Where to buy it: Shake-N-Go sells through beauty supply stores rather than direct, so in person it is your local shop, and online it is the big three that show up on the search page for the brand.

How long it lasts, and what kills it early

Four to six weeks is the honest answer for a sew-in, and six to eight for twists or crochet, which have less friction on the fiber. Nobody gets six months out of a $20 synthetic pack and you should be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. What decides where you land in that range is almost entirely friction and heat.

Here is what actually shortens it:

• Washing it in the shower. Water running down through the lengths tangles the fiber at the nape within two washes. Wash it laid flat in a sink.
• Sleeping on it bare. One week of a cotton pillowcase does more matting than a month of careful wear. A satin bonnet or scarf is the whole maintenance routine.
• Brushing wet. Synthetic fiber has no elasticity when wet. It does not stretch back, it snaps.
• Going past 400F. The heat rating is a ceiling, not a target. A 450F flat iron pass will melt a section flat and it never recovers.
• Buying the wrong pattern and fighting it. People buy Water Curl and then try to iron it straight. It half works, it frizzes, and the pack is ruined.

See the length before you spend the money

Here is the free version of this decision, done properly: go to the store, hold a 22 inch pack of Breezy Wave up against your jaw in the mirror, and try to picture it installed. Take a photo of yourself from the front. Look at your face shape against the volume of the pattern. That costs nothing and it is genuinely better than guessing from a product photo.

The wall it hits is this. A pack in your hand is a ponytail of loose fiber, not a head of hair. It tells you the color and it tells you the length, and it tells you nothing about how a deep wave reads against a round face, or whether 28 inches of straight makes you look longer or just makes your shoulders disappear. And once the pack is opened, no beauty supply in the country is taking it back.

So do the seeing part first. Upload one front-facing photo and put the finished style on your own face before you buy the hair for it. Wavy length, curly volume, boho braids, twists, sleek and straight: you see your face under each one in about a minute, and the first look costs nothing and needs no card.

Organique is a good buy at what it costs, as long as you buy it for what it is: twenty dollars of heat-safe synthetic fiber that looks right for four to six weeks and cannot be recolored. Pick the texture from the finished style you want, buy the length that pattern needs rather than the length on the photo, and treat the sink and the bonnet as part of the price.

The only expensive mistake here is the one nobody warns you about, which is buying the right hair in the wrong pattern for your face and wearing it anyway because the pack is open. Two minutes of looking at the style on your own photo removes that entirely.
